Ted Justesen Scow

Ted Justesen Scow, beloved husband, brother, uncle, father and grandfather peacefully passed away on his 61st wedding anniversary June 14, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Orangeville, Utah on February 25, 1932 to Arvon and Janice Scow. He was the middle of three children; his older brother Richard Scow and younger brother Merrill Scow. After graduating from South Emery High School, Ted attended Carbon College, Utah State College, and Brigham Young University where he studied geology. While attending Brigham Young, he met his sweetheart, Joy Marlene Oakley in a Geology Lab he was teaching. They were married for time and eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple on June 14, 1954. They were blessed with seven children. While growing up in Southern Utah, Ted enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a fine athlete, playing basketball, track, and baseball. After a short career as a geologist in Grants, New Mexico, Ted ran a successful cotton harvesting business in the Buckeye, Arizona area. He had a lifelong interest in history, military aviation, sports and agriculture. Ted had a tremendous work ethic, a strong sense of values and integrity which was recognized by all who knew him. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will be remembered for his character and example, his kindness and willingness to selflessly give to those who stood in need. This family patriarch (aka “The Commander”) had an enduring love for his family, adored his grandchildren and was involved in all aspects of their lives. Ted has left behind his loving wife, Marlene; children: Stanton and his wife Susan, Stuart and his wife Laurie, Brian and his wife Nancy, Bradley and his wife Sue, Michele and her husband Mike Markham; Michael, Shaun and his wife Afton; 37 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and brothers Richard D. and Merrill C. Scow. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons. We will miss Ted - yet we are comforted to know he is unburdened from the constraints of this earthly realm and is now with loved ones who have passed before him. We are grateful for the knowledge that we will see him again. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the LDS Brimhall Ward Building Chapel, 1249 S. 48th St. Mesa, Arizona. A viewing will precede the services at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Mariposa Gardens Cemetery located at 6747 E. Broadway Road in Mesa, Arizona.
