Beverly L'Vonne Bavousett

With loving memories, the family and friends of Beverly Smith Bavousett celebrate her 82 years of living an adventurous life. Preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Lurline, and her sister Lurline, Beverly passed away in her sleep November 25th, 2015, in her own home with family at her bedside and her devoted dog lying next to her. Beverly joined Alpha Gamma Delta and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas, Austin, at age 20. She enjoyed working for Braniff Airlines until a handsome USAF pilot swept her away for 59 years of a playful marriage with lots of love and travel. She raised a son and two daughters before returning to work in the field of education. Beverly spoke fluent French and fluent Spanish, teaching both subjects to junior high students, and later teaching 4th grade at Combs Elementary School in Queen Creek. She was a talented artist and taught oil painting classes at the City of Chandler Senior Center for 20 years. As her parents taught her, Beverly raised her children and grandchildren to appreciate nature and animals, to enjoy the humor in life, to be kind to others, and to seek out new experiences in the world. She happily served as a host family for visitors from Holland, France, Ukraine, Russia, and Hungary, ensuring the foreigners experienced all of Arizona’s beauty, such as Sedona, and character, such as Tortilla Flat. She loved camping and hiking (including hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and an accidental-overnight hike through the Superstition Mountains). She traveled 46 states including Alaska and Hawaii, and had great stories about each place she visited. Beverly was an excellent, creative cook and also enjoyed dining out with her family. She loved to read and watch movies, especially the black and white films of her youth. She is survived by the love of her life, Lt. Col. Conrad Bavousett, her free-spirited children, and a slew of quick-witted grandkids and great-grandsons. Beverly loved to laugh and her stories will live on through family and friends who deeply miss her. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5th, 3pm at Legacy Funeral Home, 1374 North Arizona Avenue, Chandler. In lieu of flowers, you can honor Beverly with a contribution to the National Wildlife Federation, Arizona Highways, KAET, or to support research for cancer or Alzheimer’s.
