Clarence William Meyer

Clarence “Clar” William Meyer Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully in his Chandler, AZ home on Thursday, December 24, 2015, surrounded by loved ones. Clarence was born on January 18, 1931 to Clarence and Edna (Smith) Meyer. He was born and raised in Chicago and had a joyful childhood attending school, delivering newspapers, and playing with the neighborhood kids. After high school graduation, Clarence worked full time while going to college and raising a family. He always valued hard work and education as he led by example. Clarence excelled at his jobs with the post office, a printing company, and a mechanic shop, but eventually came to realize his passion for building homes and began his own construction business in Illinois. In addition to those accomplishments, Clarence was also a licensed pastor, allowing him to serve others through sermons, wedding, funerals, and guidance. After raising six children of his own, Clarence moved to Phoenix, AZ with his wife and youngest daughter. Although he planned to retire, he couldn’t sit still, and held a job as a security officer for a few years before moving to Payson for a simpler life. Most recently, Clarence and his wife moved to Chandler to be closer to family. Up until his final month, he remained active, doing handyman jobs around his home and bowling with his neighborhood friends. Clarence was an ambitious man with many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, reading, sports, collectables, and traveling with his family. Clarence is survived by his wife, Delores, of 38 years, his daughters, Sheryl (Keith) Bratcher of Gilbert, AZ, Carol (Vince) Zito of Sandwich, IL, and Dawn (Bill) Sundstrom of State College, PA, sons Doug (Diane) Meyer of Paw Paw, IL, Scott Meyer of Antioch, IL, Mike (Sherri) Tomaszewski of Scottsdale, AZ, David (Cindy) Tomaszewski of Phoenix, AZ, and Jim (Janet) Tomaszewski of Fountain Hills, AZ, and sisters Joyce (Don) King of Paw Paw, IL, and Lucinda Reinhold of Redding, CA. Clarence also has 20 grandchildren, as well as four great-grandchildren. Clarence is preceded in death by his mother, Edna, father, Clarence, and son, William (Bill) Meyer. Clarence was a caring son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but he will remain with all in their memories. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date for all those who wish to remember the good times they had with Clarence.
