Ella Mae Manuel-Humphrey

On Friday July 1, 2016 at 1:11 am at the age of 60 years old Ella Mae Manuel-Humphrey of Buckeye, Arizona; quietly entered into eternal rest after a long battle with cancer. Ella Mae was born on July 4, 1955 in Auburn, New York to the late Lucas C Manuel Sr. and Mozell Turner Manuel the youngest of 10 children. Ella Mae resided in Auburn, New York for 52 years. She graduated from Auburn High School and from childhood she was an active member of Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church where she served in the choir as well as in the woman’s ministry. She served on the board at Booker T. Washington Community Center and volunteered for many of the dances and Easter Tournaments. She periodically bartended at Robie’s, the family owned bar on Chapman Ave. Ella Mae was employed at General Electric and Dunn and McCarthy until the mid-80’s. She started working for Welch Allyn in the late 80’s for over 20 years until she moved to North Carolina in 2007. Ella worked for Smithfields Foods from 2007 to 2012, afterwards retiring to spend time with family and to concentrate on her health. Ella became a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Fayetteville, NC. There she was an active member of their choir until she moved to Arizona after employment relocated the family. This was the time that she was able to enjoy traveling back to New York, North Carolina and Florida to visit with family and friends. Even being diagnosed with cancer did not stop Ella from traveling and enjoying life. Ella Mae loved many and was loved by many. Family: She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Poole (Brian O. Poole) of Buckeye, Arizona; Granddaughter: Tajuana Thomas of Buckeye, Arizona; Justice and Angel Poole of Mississippi; Grandsons Darius Farewell of Phoenix, Arizona and Za-Ontay Boothman of Buckeye, Arizona; Great-grandson Kyng Jones; Two nieces that she raised as her own - Florence and Patricia Manuel of Fayetteville North Carolina, and one nephew Kevin (Neoshaun) Manuel of Phoenix, Arizona; God daughter- Kyhjra Boothman of Weedsport, New York. She also leaves behind two sisters Mary Wilson, Rochester, New York, and Inez Richardson, Gilbert, Arizona, and one brother, Willie Manual Sr., Sanford, Florida. Her best friend of over 40 years Marie Williams of Rochester, New York. She was predeceased by four brothers – Milton Daniels, Roy Daniels Jr., Jimmy Daniels, and Lucas Manuel, two sisters, Evelue Dennis, and Carolyn Manuel-Price. She also leaves behind one special friend Michael Canty of Fayetteville, North Carolina, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
