Jerome B Getty August 1, 1936 – March 11, 2015 Jerry passed away on March 11th in Chandler, AZ at 78 years of age. He was born on August 1, 1936 to Kenneth & Dorothy Getty in Minneapolis, MN. He was a great athlete playing both baseball and football throughout high school. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, Jerry began his career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Tenney. In 1960 Jerry accepted a job with Pacific Bell Company and he and Sue decided to migrate to the San Francisco Bay Area. This is where both daughters' were born and raised. His continued love of sports led him to coach his daughters' softball leagues for many years. In 1974 he married Yvonne Lopp and they spent 28 happy years together until her passing in 2002. They lived in San Jose until retirement in 1991 after 37 years with the phone company. They retired to their home in the mountains of Arnold, CA, which Jerry called "God's Country". Both daughters have many memories of the times they spent in Blue Lake Springs over the years with their dad. Jerry became very active in the Blue Lake Springs Association, he was a volunteer coordinator for the fire safety program and an avid member of Sons in Retirement (SIR). He and Yvonne took up golf, which became their new love and they made many life long friends along the way. He was also an avid reader, loved a good poker game and looked forward to the football season every year to watch his beloved 49ers. In 2013 Jerry moved to Chandler, AZ to be closer to family. He enjoyed his 16 months here spending time with his new companion and dear friend Dorla. They enjoyed going to the movies, dining out, golfing on the putting green and spending time with family. Her love and care comforted Jerry until the very end. Jerry was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, stepmother Lavon, and his wife Yvonne. He is survived by his daughter Cindy Gardner (Shawn) of Chandler, AZ and Nikki Fox ( Nathan) of Templeton, CA., and grandson Noah Fox. He is also survived by four brothers: Robert, Allan, Steve, Paris, many nieces and nephews, and Sue Tenney Hargrave, the mother of his daughters. A small service and celebration of life will be held in Murphys, CA in August where he will be buried next to Yvonne at the Buena Vista Cemetary.
