Joseph Moss

Joseph (Joe) Moss died the morning of April 10th, 2016 after battling pancreatic cancer for almost 2 years. He was born May 6, 1943 to Ophelia Moss. Joe was the younger to his twin brother, Jerry. Born in Pritchard, Alabama and moved to McComb, MS at a young age. There he met his wife, Iva Jean Moss, and they married June 23, 1962. Joe joined the United States Air Force in August of 1962. They have one daughter, Lisa Marie Dawson married to R. Craig Dawson Jr. with two grandchildren, Bradley and Maisey. Joe served his country in the Air Force for 28 years and rose to the rank of CMSgt when he retired. He served one term in Vietnam and was stationed all over the world. He was stationed at Homestead AFB, FL- Tyndall AFB,FL- Brunssum, Netherlands- Gunter AFB,AL- White Sands Missile Range, NM- NATO in Brussels, Belgium, and Williams AFB,AZ. He was always proud of his service and the men and women he served with. Joe worked for the Social Security Administration after he retired from the USAF. He worked for the SSA until 2006 when he finally retired. Again he was proud to work for the government and to help people. He loved the people he worked with. Joe enjoyed retirement. He volunteered at the Phoenix Zoo. He spent time with his wife. He visited his daughter and her family. He got up when he felt like it and spent his days doing things he loved with people he loved. He looked forward to his weekly lunches and/or breakfasts with his friends and spoke with love and pride of his grandchildren. Joe had an infectious laugh and always appreciated a good joke even though he couldn't always remember the punch line when he tried to retell them. He enjoyed playing ball and bowling when he was younger. He liked to keep busy running errands, meeting with his friends, going out to dinner with Jean. He loved his cats even though he often complained about them. Mostly Joe loved his wife and daughter. Married for almost 53 years, they were high school sweethearts. Joe often told others that she was the always the only woman for him. He was proud of his daughter's academic success, loved her husband, and adored his grandkids. He was always slipping them special treats and bragging on them to anyone who would listen. Joe will be missed. Military Internment Services will be held at the National Cemetery June 17, 2016 11 a.m. and a Memorial Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home in Chandler, AZ later that afternoon at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
