Teri Lyn Werner

Teri Lyn Werner, previously Teri Lyn Axthlem, born March 10, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa. A loving wife and adoring mother who lived an incredible life. Teri was born and lived in Iowa through her high school years then attended college at the University of South Dakota majoring in Liberal Arts. While there she honored that belonged to the Alpha Phi Sorority, and graduated USD with a degree in 1979. Moving on with her life she relocated in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1980 and attended Arizona State University where she obtains second degree as a Paralegal. Expanding her career further, she employed with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office as a Detentions Officer in the early 80's. She excelled in her work as a Classifications Officer then on to the Training Division of the Office. There she was able to use her talents to help others, through training, to become professional in their assigned fields. She was also instrumental in authoring new policy and procedures for Detention as a direct result of Hart vs. Hill a Landmark court decision for those in custody. Desiring more of a challenge, Teri moved on to the Adult Probation Office of Maricopa County There, being recognized, for her abilities and professionalism she was selected to be part of a program called the INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROGRAM. This was a new concept that let Probation Officers work in the field directly with the probationers in their own environment. During this time Teri's lie changed again, she met and married Steve Werner her devoted husband of 29 years. Marrying in 1965 they began their life together and she continued on with her chosen career. Another milestone in her life came along in 1990 with the birth of Aaron Werner, her son. Teri's maternal instincts took over and she chose to put her career on hold and devote her life to her son and husband and her continued devotion to them both. Shortly there after, Teri received a devastating diagnosis that would be life changing for all concerned especially Teri herself. She suffered with an illness that would stop most people, but Teri was not a quitter she was a fighter and besides Teri was not most people. She faced that challenge with a determination unlike any other. With strength and courage (her mantra) she continued her life with a positive attitude and the continuing desire and devotion to her husband and son. For the next 23 years this was her attitude. While facing a shortened life span she added more responsibility to herself in order to help others again. In 1994, she became a Court Appointed Advocate to Foster Children, a volunteer position that touch the heart of Teri as a mother. She furthermore sat on a board for Fostered Children which determined the fate of foster kids, who would be foster parents and the procedures and training that must be followed. If this wasn't enough she chose to become a foster parent herself with Steve's blessing and took on and raised three kids over the 12 - 13 years. As Teri's illness and ultimate demise progressively got worse, as she knew it would, she maintained a positive attitude throughout. On December 15th of 2015, Teri's life came to an end and she found peace for herself after a tremendously successful career and awesome caring mother and wife. A life to remember for us all that of Teri Lyn Werner
